U.S. to issue sanctions on Iran after Israel attack

The U.S. has announced fresh sanctions to be imposed on Iran’s missile and drone program after the country’s retaliatory attack on Israel over the weekend.

Jake Sullivan, the White House National Security Adviser, announced this on Tuesday, stating that President Joe Biden is working towards coordinating with the G7 nations and bipartisan leaders of Congress on a “comprehensive response” to Iran’s attack.

The announcement follows the U.S. condemnation of an “unprecedented” attack against Israel, leading to the pressing vote of bipartisan in Congress for Biden to take on Iran on Sunday.

However, Israel reportedly carried out an airstrike on an Iranian diplomatic complex in Syria on April 1st, 2024, leading to the death of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

While Biden strongly warned Israel against counterattack, he maintained deploying sanctions on Iran in the economic sphere as punishment on Iran.

These new sanctions, including the ones Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is reportedly preparing, mark indefinite support the U.S. is gathering in favour of Israel in the Middle East conflict.

Also, as the sanctions target entities supporting the IRGC and Iran’s Defense Ministry, Sullivan has maintained that the U.S. anticipates that its allies and partners will soon follow with their sanctions.

Meanwhile, Iran has announced new rules in response to the West-backed Israel’s retaliatory attack against the nation: “You touch us, we will destroy you. Anyone who attacks our land will face punishment, and the era of hit-and-run is over.”

More so, in further reports, Russia and China’s top officials met with North Korean President Kim Jong Un to secure the Middle East against Western-backed Israel’s conflict.
