449

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Abuja light rail project is nearing completion, with approximately 95% of the work finished.

Wike revealed this during a courtesy visit by the Belgium Ambassador to Nigeria, Pieter Leenknegt, at his office in Abuja today.

During the meeting, Ambassador Leenknegt expressed concerns about the need for an alternative mode of transportation for FCT residents.

In response, Wike assured him that the Abuja light rail project would address these concerns, providing a reliable and efficient transportation option for the capital’s residents.

Furthermore, Wike highlighted plans for the inauguration of the project, stating that President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the Abuja light rail project in May.

This announcement marks a significant milestone in the development of transportation infrastructure in the nation’s capital.

In addition to discussing transportation issues, the Minister reiterated his administration’s commitment to finding a permanent solution to end ‘open grazing’ in the FCT.

He acknowledged the complexities of the situation, emphasising the need for patience in addressing the concerns raised by cattle rearers, many of whom are indigenes of the FCT.
