Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and newly named “Political Icon of the Year” by The Sun Awards, delivered a powerful message of hope and unity in his acceptance speech. While initially hesitant due to the nation’s ongoing struggles, Obi acknowledged the award’s unique focus on celebrating contributions towards a “Nigeria of our dreams.”

He dedicated the honor to impoverished Nigerians facing daily uncertainty, expressing his deep understanding of their plight. He also extended his gratitude to fellow citizens, particularly the youth, who remain committed to his vision of a “New Nigeria.” Obi emphasized that their dedication is not in vain and fuels his own political journey.

Acknowledging the 2023 election setback, Obi urged Nigerians to unite beyond tribal, religious, and political differences. He stressed the importance of breaking free from “bad governance” and collectively building the Nigeria they envision.
