My Fall Was Prostration For Democracy As A Yoruba Boy – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has described his fall during the democracy day parade as prostration in honour of democracy as a Yoruba boy.

Tinubu made the statement on Wednesday during a dinner party at the Presidential Villa.

Earlier this morning, I had a stagger, and it was on social media with people confused about whether I was doing Buga or Babaringa,” he said.

In a humorous take to laugh off the unfortunate fall, he said, “For Mr Tinubu, June 12 is a day to celebrate democracy while doing “dobale” for the day. I am a traditional Yoruba boy. I did my dobale.”

While ‘Dobale’ is a Yoruba translation of prostration, the President, with a touch of cultural pride, attributed the fall to a show of respect to elders.

However, one of his aides, Dada Olusegun, had dismissed the unfortunate fall as “mild missteps.”

Meanwhile, the “mild missteps” triggered reactions from Nigerians and the opposition party leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi who sympathised with the President.

I sincerely sympathise with President Bola Tinubu over this unfortunate incident as he was set to review the parade on Democracy Day. I do hope that all is well with him,” Atiku wrote on X.

On the other hand, Obi wrote that it is unfortunate to witness a president’s fall. “I wish him well. We achieve nothing by gloating about an accident that could well happen to any of us,” he said in a statement on X.
