MTV Movie & TV Awards on Hiatus for 2024

418

The MTV Movie & TV Awards will not be held in 2024. The network has not provided a reason for this decision. According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources confirmed the cancellation for next year.

The last ceremony occurred in May 2023 amidst the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike. Drew Barrymore was set to host the 2023 show. However, the strike, which began on May 2, 2023—just five days before the show was scheduled at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California—led Barrymore and most guests to withdraw in solidarity with the striking writers.

As a result, the traditional live ceremony was replaced with a pre-recorded virtual event, lacking a host. The 2023 show featured numerous pre-taped segments, including acceptance speeches and clips from upcoming movies and TV shows, as well as highlights from previous editions of the awards. Awards categories, nominees, and winners were announced through a voiceover, and the event was referred to as the “2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards Special.”
