A male loctician who resides in Lagos has been another victim of Nigeria Police brutality after paying ₦25,000 as bail in exchange for his freedom at the hands of unidentified officers of the Nigeria Police Force of Ketu Division (Area ‘H’ Command), who accused him of being a “cultist.’

Salami Samuel disclosed to this journalist on Sunday as he recounted how exercising his right to freedom of movement from Lagos Mainland to the Island on Friday led to being stripped of his shoes and the compromised officers’ unfounded accusation laid on his person to justify the illegal arrest.

His illegal arrest, torture and dehumanisation by officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) occurred on Friday as Samuel was heading to Ikoyi to help his former employer repair her laptop. He was picked up by unidentified officers of Ketu Division who, for fear of being caught on camera, had seized his phone, and he was soon framed as a ‘cultist’ for having a wallpaper with the depiction of a lantern.

I was walking near Tipper garage to the Island to meet my boss for her laptop repair, unfortunately the cops from a [taxi] Korope ambushed me, Samuel recounted the ugly incident.

Before speaking to West Africa Weekly, Samuel had detailed the unfortunate incident of yet another police brutality that led to his arrest on X, raising public awareness of the constant stereotype of Nigerian youths by corrupt officers of the NPF.

Samuel only gained his freedom after complying with enforced admission of wrong following torture by the unmarked police officers who had only black bullet-proof vests on.

With this, West Africa Weekly contacted CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer at Lagos State Command, for comment on Samuel’s illegal search of phone and seizure, including the torture he had to endure and paid bail of ₦25,000 in exchange for his freedom. The Force PRO is yet to respond at press time.
