Female Soldier Alleged Harassment By Senior Officers, Army Reacts

A female soldier serving in Lagos State has come forward in a viral video, alleging sexual harassment and threats to her life by senior army officers.

The soldier, posted to Cantonment Medical Centre, Ojo, Lagos, in 2022, identified the accused officers as Col. IB Abdulkareem, Col. GS Ogor, and Brig. Gen. IB Solebo.

Expressing her distress, the soldier disclosed that she had faced oppression, including unwarranted lockups, eviction from her apartment, and confinement in a psychiatric hospital for a month without medication.

She further claimed that her bank account has been frozen since February 2023, leaving her without a salary for reasons unknown, she noted in the video.

In response to these serious allegations, the Nigerian Army issued a statement on its X page, acknowledging the report and stating that it is actively investigating the claims.

The Army further urged the public to refrain from premature judgments, emphasizing its commitment to upholding the integrity and morals of its personnel.

The statement read, “We assure the general public that the Nigerian Army as an institution is committed to upholding the integrity and morals of its personnel, and as such, appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. We urge the public to allow the investigative process to take its course and refrain from making hasty judgments.”
