Enugu Rangers Crowned 2023/24 NPFL Champions

562

Enugu Rangers have clinched the 2023/24 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title following a decisive 2-0 victory over Bendel Insurance on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu.

Led by coach Fidelis Ikechukwu, Rangers FC have secured the league title with one game left in the season.

Goals from Kelechuckwu Agu and Chidiebere Nwobodo sealed the victory and ensured Rangers’ top position on the league table, now holding an unassailable 62 points.

Rangers’ title success was also aided by their closest rivals, Enyimba and Remo Stars, dropping points in their weekend fixtures.

Remo Stars were defeated 2-1 by Sunshine Stars at the Akure Township Stadium. Despite Ahmed Akinyele’s penalty in the 75th minute, Remo Stars could not overturn the deficit.

Enyimba also faltered, suffering a 2-1 loss to Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Goals from Godwin Odibo and Jonathan Alukwu helped the relegation-threatened Sporting Lagos secure a vital win over the People’s Elephant.

The losses for both Enyimba and Remo Stars confirmed that neither could surpass Rangers’ 62 points, securing the league title for Enugu Rangers with one matchday remaining.
