Demolition Of The Rivers State House Of Assembly Complex

611

There is an ongoing demolition of the Rivers State Assembly Complex. The state government has not given the reasons for the sudden demolition, but many believe it is politically motivated and heavily linked to the Wike versus Sim debacle.

With no prior notice given to the public as expected for a public building built with taxpayers’ money, bulldozers and excavators were seen this morning tearing down the building in the presence of vehicles that seem to belong to security operatives, according to eyewitnesses who released a video.

The Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the assembly has, however, decried the demolition and described it as a rape of both democracy and the history of the state’s legislature. They claim that all documents and archives of the Assembly were destroyed in the demolition.
