Xavi sacked Barcelona

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández has been dismissed from his role, as confirmed by football journalist Fabrizio Romano. The decision, made by club president Joan Laporta, comes just ahead of Barcelona’s final game of the season against Sevilla.

Xavi, who planned to leave Camp Nou at the end of the 2023/24 season, reversed his decision in April after discussions with Laporta.

However, despite the upturn in form, tensions between Xavi and the club’s hierarchy surfaced, particularly after his comments post-Almeria match about Barcelona’s inability to financially compete with the likes of Real Madrid and other European elite clubs. These remarks did not sit well with the club’s board, according to reports.

According to The Athletic, the possibility of Xavi reconsidering his future at the club had become increasingly likely, and talks about his position were initially slated for after the season finale against Sevilla.

However, the situation escalated, leading to the immediate decision to part ways with the former Barcelona midfielder.

The club is reported to soon appoint former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
