The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a ban on sports betting and introduced new rules that are reportedly aimed at curbing immorality in the state.  The Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujaheed Aminuddeen, revealed this during a press briefing on October 2, 2024.

Dr. Aminuddeen outlined new regulations regarding courtship and night movements. He stated that prospective couples would no longer be allowed to sit in tinted vehicles, particularly at night. In addition, landlords renting out apartments to unknown persons will face arrest due to concerns over using residential houses as motels and lodges.

The Hisbah also said it would be stricter with female beggars found outside late at night. Women seen in tricycles after 10 PM will also be arrested, as the Hisbah considers this as a way to address prostitution among young girls in the state.

Dr Aminuddeen said that violators of these new rules would face severe penalties and called on parents to watch over their children and prevent any misconduct.
