A fire outbreak has been reported at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos. The incident has caused panic among workers and residents in the vicinity.

The fire, which broke out earlier today, has been captured in a video shared across several social media platforms.

The videos on X  show thick, dark smoke from what appears to be one of the tank storage within the facility.  However, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Videos seen online show workers running out of the affected section of the refinery, seeking safety as the fire spread.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, one of the largest in Africa, is a significant part of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

West Africa Weekly earlier reported that Devakumar Edwin, the Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), had accused International Oil Companies (IOCs) in Nigeria of price manipulation to undermine local oil refining.

In a press release, the company stated that the fire has been contained with no casualties.
